How to Track Events

How do you accurately track all website events and send back to Meta?

Once the basic script is installed on your website, PixelFlow automatically tracks all Page View events on your website by default. Outside of that, there are two ways to setup further event tracking.

You can use either (or both) of the following methods:

1. Assigning an Event to a URL

You can use the Event URL functionality to assign a particular event to a specific page on your website.

  • Useful for pages with a clear action, such as a thank-you page after purchase or a confirmation page after registration.

  • Example: Assigning a Purchase event to https://example.com/checkout/thank-you.

  • Any time a visitor lands on that URL, PixelFlow automatically triggers the event.

2. Manually Tagging Website Elements

For more in-depth tracking, you can manually tag specific elements on your website with a "class" from a pre-defined list in our Classes Document to track events and enrich them further with additional metadata such as name, price, address etc.

  • Gives you precise control over event triggers.

  • You can add a special PixelFlow class to buttons, links, or form elements to fire events when users interact with them.

  • Example: Adding a Lead event to a “Get a Quote” button.

  • This method is ideal for tracking on-page actions that do not load a new URL, such as pop-ups or forms.

Best Practice

  • Use Event URL tracking for simple conversion pages like thank-you or success screens.

  • Use manual class tracking for interactive elements such as add-to-cart buttons, contact forms, or custom UI components.

  • Always enrich events with additional parameters (value, currency, product IDs) whenever possible to improve reporting and optimization.

Additionally, if you would like to ensure that bot clicks, page refreshes or people returning to the same /thank-you URL do not cause duplicate events to be fired, you can use the Advanced Blocking Rules.
